Junior Infants is our pupil's first experience of primary school and it is important to us that it is as relaxed and enjoyable as possible, while also trying to develop independence, resilience and a work ethic in all.
In the Junior and Senior Infant classroom we encourage the child to:
· engage in free play with one another during the course of the day
· engage in PE lessons in a fun and energetic way
· learn how to work cooperatively in groups
· develop their fine motor skills through cutting exercises using scissors
· practice letter formations in cursive writing formation
· Hold the pencil correctly
· Practice free writing each week.
· Develop a love for reading, using both shared and classroom readers
· read to one another in pairs and talk about the pictures they see in their books
· develop their reading using a mix of the Jolly Phonics Programme and sight words
