Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday
25th Feb 2026
On Shrove Tuesday we missed a lot of work because we went on a walk and when we got back, we got pancakes. The choices were jam, Nutella or sugar and lemon juice. Shrove Tuesday is important because it’s the day before Lent starts so people used it as a way to use up all the eggs and sweet things in the house to prepare.
On Ash Wednesday the priest, Fr. Hickey, from Bansha came to our school to put crosses on our heads. From juniors up everybody got a cross on their heads, even the teachers and SNAs and after we said our prayers. We learned about the three pillars of Lent – prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
