Tankerstown N.S. VS Loughmore N.S. U13 Mixed County Final
19th Dec 2024
It was a sunny but cold day in Littleton GAA pitch on the 26th of November 2024. This match had been postponed due to snow and frost weather warnings the week before, so the team was ready and eager to get going.
Tankerstown N.S. lined up a strong starting team:
Goalkeeper – Séamus D
Backs – Bill and James
Mid Field – Denis, Aodh and Grace
Forwards – Ria and Amy
Subs – Callum, Mai, Chloe, Nathan and Kiri
Reporter – Molly H
First Half
The whistle blew and the game commenced. The team started off strong, Ria scored a classy goal. Ria was sick so went off for a short break and was replaced by Chloe. After the substitution, Aodh scored a lovely point. Then Loughmore responded with a point. Aodh side-footed it perfectly into the goal. Loughmore kicked a high ball in, but Bill blocked it, so it fell to Loughmore’s full-forward and they hit it into the back of the net. After some time working the ball up the field, it got to Aodh who put it over the bar. Then Loughmore got the ball, attempted to shoot but hit the crossbar. We then had similar bad luck with Aodh missing a free. Unfortunately, Loughmore narrowed our lead with a point from a free.
Half Time (Score - T.N.S. 2:2 L.N.S. 1:2).
The low sun was blinding for our goalie, Séamus, who was relieved to receive a cap from a helpful parent. Loughmore began the second half fast with a point and a goal. Then Loughmore won a penalty and converted from the spot. We bounced back with a point from Denis. We were delighted to win a free, Aodh played the free quickly to James who scored a goal but unfortunately it was disallowed because it was taken too quickly. Then Loughmore got a point from play. We made a comeback with Denis scoring a cracking goal. Our team switched around with Denis moving to full back and Bill to mid-field. Then Loughmore got a goal and a point in quick succession. Aodh was devastated to miss a penalty that hit the post and went wide. Denis and Bill switched back after this. Loughmore then scored a point to finish it off. The final whistle blew and our whole team was distraught after putting in such a fantastic effort throughout the whole competition.
Our team would like to thank all the coaches for all their time and hard work, our parents for supporting us and supplying the tea on the sideline, our fantastic bus drivers who brought us to the games and our super reporter Molly who diligently reports on all of our matches.
